Kids - Help Keep MLAR Afloat!

The Star Thrower

by Loren Eiseley

An old man was walking along the shore, when he noticed a child off in the distance. The child was picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

As the old man walked closer to the boy, he shouted, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young boy looked up and replied, “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the old man.

The boy answered, “The sun is hot and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back into the sea, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the old man said, “But, child, don’t you know there are millions of starfish along this beach? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

The boy bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he turned, and smiled, and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

Every day, a child is making a difference in the life of an animal at Main Line Animal Rescue.

Kaitlyn Hill shared her birthday with Main Line Animal Rescue's dogs, cats and rabbits. This year, just as her sister, Autumn, decided to do, for her 9th birthday, the present she wanted the most from family and friends was a donation that would go toward the animals in our shelter. Together the sisters have raised nearly $1000 in support of the animals at MLAR. Ethan Clearfield, age 14, has been raising money for Main Line Animal Rescue since 2007. He is passionate about helping animals in need and has poured his love for MLAR and animals into a variety of fundraisers. "Biscuit Baker E," as Ethan is now known, is the sole proprietor, owner and head baker of a business he created for his successful fundraisers. The dogs love his all-natural, homemade dog biscuits! From the proceeds, Ethan has donated more than $3,500 to MLAR. biscuitbakere@gmail.com
